ILMIÖ aims to be part of creating a new and more accessible urban culture. This year, you cannot buy entry tickets to the event. Instead we encourage using the saved ticket money to support your favourite artists directly by purchasing their music and art.
ILMIÖ festival is realized with the support of the City of Turku and the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
ILMIÖ is primarily an event aimed at adults. However, ILMIÖ also wants to enable participation by families with children, so the area is open for children aged 0-12 on Saturday afternoons between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm. At other times, the event is 18+, so please remember to bring identification.
At the entrances, security checks are conducted. Please note that it is not allowed to bring your own drinks to the festival area. You can bring one empty 0.5L plastic bottle, which you can fill at the water station. There is no cloakroom at the festival area.
Prohibited items at the festival area include your own alcoholic beverages, narcotics, animals, weapons, as well as umbrellas or other items and substances that might be considered dangerous to others.
You can also bring your own snacks to the festival area, which should be clearly packaged.
There are two water stations on the site, one located in the courtyard of Taiteen talo and the other at the end of the alley leading to Brinkkala’s courtyard. Toilets are located inside Taiteen talo, in Brinkkala’s courtyard, and at Kirjakahvila. Accessible toilets are located on the first floor of Taiteen talo (security will guide you in through the main entrance) and next to the gate in Brinkkala’s courtyard (security will open the door).
The festival area features food stalls and a café. There are three food stalls: Shams Falafel, Sushi Panda, and Dal Forno pizzeria. The area also has four beverage service points. The Kirjakahvila café is open according to the festival’s opening hours.
ILMIÖ wants to be a safe event for everyone. We do not tolerate racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or any other discriminatory behavior. Respect everyone’s self-identification. Do not touch, stare, photograph, or ask personal questions without consent. In case of any problems, you can turn to ILMIÖ staff and security personnel on-site or contact us later.
The event’s security personnel are there to ensure everyone’s comfort. You can easily approach them for assistance. There are also first aid personnel and a quiet space available on-site.
Within our resources, ILMIÖ strives to acknowledge diversity in culture, language, gender, and sexuality across all aspects of production. Our production team is diverse, and we hope this reflects in the event’s accessibility, programming, and communication. ILMIÖ is always eager to learn, so feedback and suggestions for improvement are warmly welcomed.
If you experience harassment at the ILMIÖ festival, please contact our press officer, Susse Seppälä, directly at 040 845 1786, susse@ilmio.fi
The festival area is located in the courtyards of Taiteen talo and Brinkkala, in the center of Turku. Parking spaces in the city center are limited, so we recommend arriving at the festival area on foot, by bike, or using public transportation. Parking spaces on Nunnankatu will be unavailable during the event. The nearest parking area is located at Tuomiokirkontori. Bike parking is available near the entrance gates from Vanha Suurtori and Nunnankatu. Public transport schedules can be found at föli.fi.
The festival area can be accessed from both Vanha Suurtori and Nunnankatu. The entrance gate on Nunnankatu can be reached via Itäinen Rantakatu (queueing takes place towards Itäinen Rantakatu). Both entrances are accessible.
Addresses for the entrance gates:
Nunnankatu 4, 20700 Turku
Vanha Suurtori, 20700 Turku
Last summer, the festival area was visited by approximately 4,500 people daily. It is very likely that this year, there will also be visitors to the courtyards of Brinkkala and Taiteen talo, so crowds, queuing, and cramped spaces are possible. The simultaneous capacity of the event area is about 1,300 people.
The festival area mainly consists of cobblestone pavement, which can pose challenges for people in wheelchairs. The courtyards slope gently. The courtyards are connected by a ramp. There are paths with smooth paving on the event area to facilitate movement. As the evening progresses, the area becomes crowded, so we recommend arriving early in the day when the area is usually less busy. The basement is accessible without obstacles from the front door of Taiteen talo when accompanied.
Quiet corners are formed in the area where you can rest and get away from the crowds. You can exit the area freely using both Taiteen talo’s and Brinkkala’s gates.
We encourage festival guests to consider people sensitive to fragrances and avoid using fragrances. Reinforced sound systems are used at the event, but efforts are made to keep the volumes listener-friendly. However, we recommend that especially sensory-sensitive individuals protect themselves with ear protection or earplugs.
ILMIÖ’s own photographers move around the area. You can recognize them by their crew pass and wristband. The photographers mainly document performances, art, and the general atmosphere. Photographers may ask for permission for close-ups, and with permission, we may use the photos for event marketing.
Due to noise and commotion, unfortunately, it is not possible to bring guide dogs to the festival area.
For further questions regarding accessibility, you can inquire via email at tuotanto@ilmio.fi.
Join our team to create the summer’s most fantastic festival! As a volunteer, you get to enjoy ILMIÖ from the field and be an invaluable part of our team. You don’t need prior experience in festival work. Since the age limit for the event is 18 years, we also require our volunteers to be of legal age.
We need enthusiastic hands for both the festival day and for setting up and dismantling the festival. Shifts are scheduled from July 18th to 21st. In the volunteer application, you can choose the days that suit you. Each shift lasts approximately 6 hours. We offer one (1) meal per shift and insurance for the duration of the shift to each volunteer.
Fill out the volunteer application by June 20th and come enjoy the festival vibe with us!
ILMIÖ festival organized an Open Call for artists during 21.3.–14.4.2024. With the art open call, the festival aims to reach out to more combinational artists and groups, that don’t necessarily live in the same bubble as the festival’s established attendants.
Festival’s multi-art programme was selected by ILMIÖ’s art producer and curator Fatima Amokrane together with the festival producers.
